BARISTA BAR

Ten years. One giant coffee moment.

The Process

This project was a true collaboration. Working closely with the team at Genesis, we bounced around ideas that would feel celebratory but still rooted in the urban landscape. Once we landed on the coffee machine curtain reveal concept, we moved straight into production.

We sourced a local actor to feature in the scene and coordinated a shoot outside Belfast City Hall, capturing the Scottish Provident Building from the perfect angle for CGI integration. With the plates secured, we moved into full 3D production, ensuring the scale, timing, and energy all delivered that birthday buzz Barista Bar was looking for.

Storyboard & Filming

With the concept agreed, we moved straight into production. The shoot took place outside Belfast City Hall, with the Scottish Provident Building as our chosen backdrop for the big reveal. We cast a local actor to feature in the scene, building the narrative around a single, satisfying action, pressing the Barista Bar buzzer.

We captured clean base plates and live-action footage from a ground-level position, ensuring alignment for CGI integration. Natural lighting and practical framing were prioritised to keep the final scene grounded in reality while setting the stage for the playful twist to come.

Modelling & Animation

We recreated the Scottish Provident Building façade in 3D to enable the dramatic curtain-drop reveal, carefully matching architectural details and textures to ensure visual continuity. The hero element, a towering Barista Bar coffee machine, was modelled with precision, from its stainless-steel finish to the branded graphics, scaled to feel epic but still believable in the environment.

The animation was choreographed to deliver maximum impact: the façade drops cleanly away as the actor presses the buzzer, revealing the coffee machine in all its glory. Ten balloons lift into the air, adding movement, celebration, and a visual cue to tie the whole piece together.

Rendering & Post Production

With the animation complete, we moved into rendering and compositing. Lighting was carefully matched to the live-action footage, with reflections and shadows calibrated to blend the 3D elements seamlessly into the city backdrop. Special attention was paid to the movement of the balloons, adding realism through subtle lighting passes and physics-based animation.

In post-production, we cleaned the base plate, removed background distractions, and integrated the curtain-drop transition with motion blur and timing tweaks to keep the moment feeling fluid. Final colour grading and sound design tied everything together, delivering a polished, energetic scene that celebrated the Barista Bar brand with scale and flair.

The Brief

To celebrate Barista Bar’s 10th birthday, we were approached by Genesis to create a high-impact CGI moment that could live on social media and mark the milestone in style. The brief was to craft something playful, surprising, and unmistakably Barista Bar, a visual that would capture attention, reflect the brand’s everyday presence, and inject a sense of celebration into the city.

The concept centred around a larger-than-life Barista Bar coffee machine hidden behind the Scottish Provident Building, right beside Belfast City Hall. With the press of the barista bar birthday buzzer, the building’s façade drops to reveal the machine, followed by floating balloons. The result? A joyful, scroll-stopping moment that transformed a landmark into a birthday tribute.
